Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help grade 7 and grade 8 students learn how to find the area of a circle given its radius or diameter.
There are two sets of area of circle worksheets
Given the radius
If you are given the radius of a circle, you can use the following formula to find the area of a circle:
Example:
Find the area of a circle with a radius of 6 units. Use 3.14 for π.
A = πr 2 = (3.14)(6) 2 = 113.04 units 2
Given the diameter
If you are given the diameter (which is twice the radius) then you would need to divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius and the use the formula A = πr 2
Example:
Find the area of a circle with a diameter of 8 units. Use 3.14 for π.
Divide the diameter by 2 to get the radius. Radius = 8 ÷ 2 = 4
A = πr 2 = (3.14)(4) 2 = 50.24 units 2
